Lifestyle Family Portrait Sessions
Planning The Session
After The Session
Where are you located?
I live in Oshawa with my wife and two daughters. I book sessions for Durham Region, Toronto and the GTA.
How would you describe your style?
Easy and honest. I think working with your photographer, and the photo sessions themselves should be easy, fun, and free of stress. This isn't picture day at school, and it's not a stuffy portrait studio at the mall. I like my sessions to be as honest as possible so that you have memories that are real. Whether this is your engagement session, wedding day, or family photo shoot, when you look back on your photos in 10 years, I want you to cherish the authentic moments we captured together.
What is a 'lifestyle' session? How is it different from a traditional portrait shoot?
'Lifestyle' is the term used to describe a session that is more natural and not strict and structured like a traditional posed portrait. Rather than simply lining up and smiling for the camera, photos from a lifestyle session tell a story. Lifestyle photos are honest and geniune because they capture you in a real moment.
What can we expect to do during our session?
I'm very easy-going and have all the patience in the world for your session. Typically, the first 15 minutes are spent doing the posed/group photos. These are the photos your parents and grandparents want for their mantle. We'll knock them out of the park and shake off any nerves you might have being in front of the camera. Once that's done, the session is about you being you. Let the kids run around, dance with your partner, and snuggle with your littlest ones. And if you have some ideas you'd like to try, I'd love to hear about them!
What if my kids don't cooperate?
When we first meet for our session, parents, please forgive me if I seem to ignore you and give all my attention to the kiddos. My goal is for them to get to know me as a friend who is going to hang out with them and join in on their adventures for the day. Building that trust with kids is very important to a successful session. Having said that, kids can be unpredictable, emotional, quirky and not every moment during a session is perfect - and that's totally fine! When you look back on these photos in 10, 20, 30 years, you'll be seeing your child as they were in a perfectly real moment. Whether they're running around with a big smile, or giving the camera a grump-face, it's a moment and photo you will always cherish (just think about sharing those photos at their wedding some day).
How do we book?
Reach out on my contact page and let me know what type of session you are interested in. After we've talked about which package fits you best, I’ll send along a formal proposal with the contract and payment information in a custom online portal.
A signed contract and non-refundable $100 retainer is required to book a session time/date.
How would you describe your style?
Like any of my sessions, I like wedding photos to be honest and real. I like to capture both creative and candid moments, so the wedding day is a mix of
Do you include engagement sessions?
Yes! All wedding packages include a complementary engagement session in the GTA*. I think these sessions are a great way for us to work together, get to know each other, and find that sweet spot of interaction. Some couples like to roam free, while others perfer a little guidance in front of the camera. An engagement session is the perfect time to work that out before your wedding day.
Engagement sessions are up to 2 hours.
*We can always do sessions outside the GTA, but travel fees may apply
How many photos do we get?
The answer to this question will always vary by wedding and depends on several factors including the length of coverage, number of photographers hired, amount of details and action, and the willingness of participants to be photographed.
I can say that you will receive all of the great photos taken. I don't put any limits on the number of photos delivered.
Part of the service I provide is to cull through all the photos and remove the test shots, people blinking, weird faces, and photos that don't work for whatever technical or artistic reason. I may take 2 or 3 shots to get the perfect frame of Aunt Gertie at your reception, but you won't receive the photo where she was adjusting her dress, or the photo where she had her eyes closed. I remove these photos so you don't have to.

Feel free to talk about me behind my back!
If you refer a friend who books a wedding with me, you'll receive $100 off your next family session, or $200 off a wedding package! (Just be sure your friend tells me about you when they book)
What do we wear?
For family and engagement sessions, I get this question all the time. The simple answer is that these are your photos, so you get to choose your style. If you're most comfortable in t-shirt and jeans, then have at 'er! For engagement sessions, we usually have time for a wardrobe change, so we can do both casual and formal looks.
I do have some tips that I share prior to our session, but you're in the driver's seat for wardrobe choices so rock your style!
Where should we have our session?
Really, any location is good as long as you're comfortable. In your own home, at a favourite green space or trail, at your cottage... the choice is yours. If you're open to ideas, I'll be happy to make some suggestions as well. Travel fees may apply for locations outside the GTA East.
What is the best time of day for our session?
For outdoor locations, morning and late afternoon are best. This way we aren't dealing with the harsh midday sun. Indoor sessions can be at any time of day. We can also work around nap schedules if needed.
I hate being in front of the camera!
Join the club! Having your photo taken is not the most natural feeling in the world. We usually stand there, asking "ok, what do you want me to do now?" and then fake-smile our way through it. My suggestion is to focus on your partner or your kids and explore the moment with them. I'm willing to bet they can bring out your emotions more than any photographer can, so have fun with them just as you would any other day and we'll capture those real moments together.
When and how will we receive our photos?
Family session photos will be available in an online gallery in 2-3 weeks. Wedding photos are delivered online and on USB stick in 6-10 weeks. Your online gallery is the perfect way to easily share your photos with family and friends.
