I live in Oshawa with my wife and two daughters. I book sessions for Durham Region, Toronto and the GTA.
Easy and honest. I think working with your photographer, and the photo sessions themselves should be easy, fun, and free of stress. I won't tell you to smile for the camera and I won't push you out of your comfort zone. I like my sessions to be as honest as possible so that you have memories that are real. Whether this is your engagement session, wedding day, or family shoot, when you look back on your photos in 10 years, I want you to cherish the authentic moments we captured.
'Lifestyle' is the term used to describe a session that is more natural and not strict and structured like a traditional posed portrait. Rather than simply lining up and smiling for the camera, photos from a lifestyle session tell a story. Lifestyle photos are honest and geniune because they capture you in a real moment.
I'm very easy-going and have all the patience in the world for your session. Typically, the first 15 minutes are spent doing the posed/group photos. These are the photos your parents and grandparents want for their mantle. We'll knock them out of the park and shake off any nerves you might have being in front of the camera. Once that's done, the session is about you being you. Let the kids run around, dance with your partner, and snuggle with your littlest ones. And if you have some ideas you'd like to try, I'd love to hear about them!
When we first meet for our session, parents, please forgive me if I seem to ignore you and put all my attention on your kids. My goal is for them to get to know me as a friend who is going to play with them and join in on their adventures for the day. Building that trust with kids is very important to a successful session. Having said that, kids can be unpredictable, emotional, quirky and not every moment during a session is perfect - and that's totally fine! When you look back on these photos in 10, 20, 30 years, you'll be seeing your child as they were in a perfectly real moment. Whether they're running around with a big smile, or giving the camera a grump-face, it's a moment and photo you will always cherish (just think about sharing those photos at their wedding some day!).
Like any of my sessions, I like wedding photos to be honest and real. I like to capture both creative and candid moments, and working closely with couples before the wedding is key ensure we're capturing exactly what you want.
Yes! All wedding packages include a complementary engagement session in the GTA*. I think these sessions are a great way for us to work together, get to know each other, and find that sweet spot of interaction. Some couples like to roam free, while others perfer a little guidance in front of the camera. An engagement session is the perfect time to work that out before your wedding day.
Engagement sessions are up to 2 hours.
*We can always do sessions outside the GTA, but travel fees may apply
The answer to this question will always vary by wedding and depends on several factors including the length of coverage, number of photographers hired, amount of details and action, and the willingness of participants to be photographed.
I can say that you will receive all of the great photos taken. I don't put any limits on the number of photos delivered.
Part of the service I offer is to cull through all the photos and remove the test shots, people blinking, weird faces, and photos that don't work for whatever technical reason. I may take 2 shots to get the perfect frame of Aunt Gertie at your reception, but
Join the club! Having your photo taken is not the most natural feeling in the world. We usually stand there, asking "ok, what do you want me to do now?" and then fake-smile our way through it. My suggestion is to focus on your partner or your kids and explore the moment with them. I'm willing to bet they can bring out your emotions more than any photographer can, so have fun with them just as you would any other day and we'll capture those real moments together.
For family and engagement sessions, I get this question all the time. The simple answer is that these are your photos, so you get to choose your style. If you're most comfortable in t-shirt and jeans, then have at 'er! For engagement sessions, we usually have time for a wardrobe change, so we can do both casual and formal looks.
I do have some tips that I can share prior to our session, but you're in the driver's seat for wardrobe choices so rock your style!
Really, any location is good as long as you're comfortable. In your own home, at a favourite green space or trail, at your cottage... the choice is yours. If you're open to ideas, I'll be happy to make some suggestions as well. Travel fees may apply for locations outside the GTA East.
For outdoor locations, morning and late afternoon are best. This way we aren't dealing with the harsh midday sun. Indoor sessions can be at any time of day. We can also work around nap schedules if needed.
Family session photos will be available in an online gallery in 2-3 weeks. Wedding photos are delivered online and on USB stick in 6-10 weeks. Your online gallery is the perfect way to easily share your photos with family and friends.
